Size Guide

Costumes run small. Almost all of them, almost always. Here is how to pick a size that actually fits, because there is no sending it back.

The one rule: if you are between two sizes, take the bigger one. A costume is meant to go over clothes and be worn for one loud night. Roomy is fine. Tight is a problem you cannot fix on the night.

Adults

Our adult costumes come from several makers, so the letter sizes do not line up perfectly with the clothes in your closet. Use the table as a starting point, then read the sizing line on the product page, which is specific to that costume.

Inflatables are one size and fit most adults from about 4 ft 11 to 6 ft 3. Each inflatable page lists its own range.

Kids

Kids' costumes are sized by height, not age. Measure your child standing against a wall without shoes, then pick the size whose height range they fall in. If they are near the top of a range, go up one.

A few kids' costumes use S, M, L instead. Those pages list the height each letter fits.

Toddlers and babies

Sized by age range on the product page. Babies grow fast, so if Halloween is more than a month away, size up.

Dogs and cats

Two measurements, both in inches, both while the animal is standing:

  1. Back length: from the base of the collar to the base of the tail.
  2. Chest: around the widest part of the ribcage, just behind the front legs.

Match both to the size chart photo on the product page. If one measurement lands in a bigger size, take the bigger size. Deep-chested breeds like Bulldogs, Boxers and Pugs almost always need a size up. Pet sizes run smaller than human intuition expects: a Labrador is usually a 3XL or 4XL, not a Large.

One more thing before you order

Every sale here is final. That is the trade for keeping prices where they are on a product that gets worn once a year. So measure, read the sizing line, and if you are still torn between two sizes, send us a message before you buy. Questions we get a lot

Why do costumes run small?

Costume makers cut them slim, and a costume has to go over whatever you wear underneath. Treat the letter on the tag as one size smaller than the same letter in a clothing store. When in doubt, go up.

Can I order two sizes and send one back?

No. Sales are final, so ordering two means keeping two. Measure once, ask us if you are unsure, and buy the one that fits.

My dog is between sizes.

Go up. Pet costumes have no give and a snug chest strap is the number one reason a dog refuses to wear one.

Do inflatables come with batteries?

No. The fan runs on batteries that you buy separately, so grab a pack before the party.
